Spending Game Day with Your Senior Loved One

Jan 17, 2023

The Big Game is a day when football fans of all ages can’t wait to wear their favorite jersey, indulge in tasty food and drink, and cheer for their favorite team.

At Canterbury Woods Gates Circle, we love to open our doors on the day of the Big Game so friends, family and loved ones can come and share in the fun. To make the most of Game Day, consider the following activities when you visit your loved one at a senior living community like Gates Circle.

Enjoy Quality Time Together.

Many of us are unable to spend enough quality time with our senior family members due to our busy schedules. Game Day is an excellent opportunity to catch up! It’ll boost your loved one’s mood when you show up ready to play games, tell stories, and enjoy a meal or tasty snacks. Spending quality time together takes many forms. What matters is sharing time with friends and family.

Reminisce About Past Game Days.

Share Big Game stories with your loved one. Talk about the victors of past games, who your loved one supported, and past BBQs and parties. As an exercise in sharpening the mind, it will be a great way for your loved one to reminisce about old friends, past parties, and maybe even old traditions. Reminiscing is often good for seniors, so a walk down memory lane is an excellent time to spend.

Discuss Your Old Favorites.

We all remember the funny and entertaining commercials from years ago. One of the best parts of the day is watching the commercials during the game. You can’t go wrong with telling your loved one about old commercials from recent years that made them laugh. There’s nothing better than a good laugh!

Prepare Healthy Snacks.

You may want to bring along some healthy snacks for your senior loved one since pizza, wings, and chips probably aren’t on the menu. Try putting together a fruit tray and serving it with yogurt. You can offer egg salad sandwiches on wheat bread, smoothies or protein shakes, hummus, and pita chips for a healthy, delicious snack.

We’re springing into the fall festival season!

We’re springing into the fall festival season!

In October, Western New York looks like a rainbow fell on it. The vivid background of yellow, golden, orange, red and purple foliage and cooling temperatures get your blood flowing. The fall festival season has begun, and Buffalonians love their festivals!  We celebrate the season with annual events like the Great Pumpkin Farm Fall Festival in Clarence, the Allentown Fall Festival in downtown Buffalo, the Fall Fest at Canalside and the Ellicottville Fall Festival. Beer lovers enjoy sampling brews at the Buffalo On Tap Harvest Beer Festival in nearby Hamburg. These events draw thousands of folks who love food, drinks, arts and crafts booths, music, fun and games and, of course, lots and lots of pumpkins!
